Lorenzo’s Christmas Wish, Inc. was established in August of 2020 in honor of Lorenzo G. Piroli who passed away suddenly on March 26, 2020. The mission of Lorenzo’s Christmas Wish is to make the holiday season brighter for struggling families with the help of donations and volunteers.
Making the holiday season brighter for less fortunate families was something Lorenzo was dedicated to for 18 years before his passing. Each year, he and a small group of friends, would gather donations and organize efforts to put smiles on the faces of many families who often wondered how they would get through the holiday season. Through their efforts, many children had gifts under their trees, and their parents had food to put on the table.
Various community organizations, elementary schools, support groups, and crisis centers nominate the families that are selected. The families that are nominated put together wish lists of items that are needed and wanted. Lorenzo and his friends would dress up as Santa and elves, delivering these items to families in a handmade sleigh. The joy that this brought to both children and adults alike was priceless, and something that needed to continue which was why Lorenzo’s Christmas Wish was formed.
Besides organizing holiday donations and deliveries, Lorenzo’s Christmas Wish also honors a student athlete at Lorenzo’s alma mater, Notre Dame High School in West Haven, with a scholarship. The scholarship recognizes young men who epitomize the values Lorenzo held close to his heart. To date, each annual scholarship is worth $500, but the foundation is hoping to increase that amount over the years.
Lorenzo’s Christmas Wish, Inc., hopes to be able to continue to honor Lorenzo’s legacy for years to come through generous donations and the work of countless volunteers. The volunteers of this organization give their time out of their own hearts as no salaries or wages are earned. As the foundation continues to grow, it looks for new ways to benefit the community and help others in need.
